The simple noodle dishes of the Shanxi province, which is situated just to the west of Beijing, are the speciality of Noodle Loft. The restaurant is considered outrageously overpriced by locals, but this place is no ordinary noodle stand. It’s a huge space with an open noodle bar on the first floor, where fresh noodles are stretched and pulled, and a comfortable dining area on the second floor. Daoxiao mian (knife-shaved noodles) are a trademark of Shanxi. The noodles come with a sauce of your choice: minced meat sauce, tomato and egg or vinegar. An English menu makes ordering easy. Highlights include yi ba zhua (fried wheat cakes with chives), qiao mian mao erduo (cat's ear-shaped pasta stir-fried with chopped meat), and suancai tudou (vinegared potato slices).
